My Approach to Yoga Practice

Hello and welcome! I’m a yoga practitioner and asana facilitator. Right off the top, I think it’s important that we tease out the difference between those things. In the West, when we say the word yoga, we’re most often talking about asana. Asana, or physical postures, are one amazing part of yoga practice, and I’m honoured to be able to pass on this aspect of yoga to others. I love guiding people through asana practice, opening the gateway to deeper yogic study and exploration. It’s with deep humility (and an eye towards accessibility) that I ever use the term “yoga teacher”.

I take a somatic approach to asana practice, inviting students to deepen their connection to the sensations of the body, to cultivate compassion and love for their physical selves, and to develop their sense of embodied wholeness as they move through the world.

Walking the path of yoga brings us towards our highest selves: integrating mind-body-spirit and inviting us into embodied wholeness. While many first come to yoga for its physical and/or mental health benefits, the changes we encounter through the practice can be profound and life changing. I know this was certainly true for me, and I love having the opportunity to share that with others.

Yoga is all about the journey, not the destination; the process, not the product; the practice, not the performance. Quite radical departures from the mainstream Western paradigm! I hope you will join me in exploring this beautiful, soul-changing practice.

NEW MOON YINTENTIONS

Every Month at Kula Yoga!

Next one: Monday May 30th @ 7pm EST

New Moon Yintentions is a 90-minute workshop combining meditation, tarot, intention setting, and a yin yoga practice.

At each New Moon, we'll meet in (virtual) community to slow down, go deep, and set intentions for the cycle ahead. The moon cycles offer an excellent opportunity to start integrating cyclical rituals into your routine, and to approach life with intention and reflection. Within the moon cycle, New Moons are a time of intention setting and visioning for the weeks and months ahead. New Moons are a yin time, when the sky is dark and we're called to slow down and go inward.

New Moon Yintentions is designed to capture the magic of this time, and support you in cultivating intentional practices for yourself. Each session will begin with a grounding meditation, for us to arrive together in time and space. Next, Bryn will provide a mini collective tarot reading, offering themes for reflection and preparing for the cycle ahead. We will then take time to set personal intentions, where you will have time to journal and perhaps pull cards for yourself, if that is part of your practice. The last half of our time together will be spent in yin practice, allowing our intentions to steep in the body as we hold postures in stillness.

EMBODIED CREATION

Four-Week Session Coming Fall 2022! Join the Waitlist!

This workshop series combines meditation, playful yoga flow, and art-making. Through movement and creativity, we will explore a new concept each week, bringing the work into our bodies, then channelling our discoveries into creation. Each session will gently build on the work of the previous week, while still being accessible and welcoming to drop-in attendees. Participants in the full four-week program will receive a bonus pdf workbook with prompts, exercises, and resources to integrate the work into your personal practice.

WEEK 1: Defining the Self In this first session we are going to drop into our bodies and explore the boundaries between our concept of self and the rest of the world. Where do these lines exist? How do we feel the interaction between self and other? How might we represent the sensations of the body and its boundaries through art? Using meditation, playful movement, and art-making, we will tune deeply into ourselves, and channel what we find creatively.

WEEK 2: Finding Your Purpose Do you have a sense of purpose in your life? Do you connect to this language or feel alienated by it? Working with the yogic concept of Dharma, this session will build on week one, exploring our personal passions, interests, and ambitions. We’ll move, we’ll meditate, we’ll map out our path creatively, allowing our curiosity to lead the way.

WEEK 3: Playing with Balance Balance: dynamic, imperfect, elusive. We’re all looking for balance, but what does it really mean? And how do we know when we’ve found it? This session will focus on these questions, while integrating the work of week one and two. We’ll see if we can expand our vocabulary of balance/imbalance through the body, and visually represent our own personal conception of this spectrum.

WEEK 4: Travelling Inward In our final session we’ll tie it all together and bring the work inward. After looking at the self in relation to the world, to purpose, to balance, we will explore our relationship to the self. What tools and lessons have we picked up along the way, and which ones will we carry back with us to our centre? Join Bryn on the mat for one last Sunday of movement, meditation & art-making!
